The ITR8102 consist of an infrared emitting diode and a silicon photo-transistor, encased side-by-side on a converging optical axis, and in a black thermoplastic housing. The photo-transistor receives radiation from the IR LED only .This is the normal operating situation. When an object interrupts the transmission, the photo-transistor does not receives the radiation and switches off.
